Bill Gates is the world’s richest man, with a wealth of over $80 billion. Gates made a majority of his wealth after he co-founded computer software company, Microsoft. He is also known for his expensive taste and within this article we take a look at some of his most expensive purchases.

8. Xanadu 2.0 – $132,000,000


Known as one of the largest and most expensive houses in the world, Xanadu 2.0 has everything you need from underground car parks to libraries, aquariums and just about anything that can go under a roof. There is also a custom made server connecting the mansion to one of the fastest internet connections in the world.

7. Rancho Pasena – $18,000,000

Bill Gates and his wife Melinda own this horse ranch in Pasena. The ranch is only 25 miles north of San Diego and is not used as Bill’s main home. It is more seen as somewhere he goes to, so he and his family can spend time with their horses.

6. Codex Leicester – $31,000,000

Codex Leicester is an extremely rare collection of writings by Leonardo Da Vinci. Gates purchased the 18 sheets of paper in 1994 at an auction for $31,000,000. Da Vinci was an extremely famous Italian polymath whose interests were in science, invention, art, architecture, music and more.

It’s no surprise that a man with the popularity of Bill Gates would need to travel the world quite often. Gates splashed $45,000,000 on this high performance luxury top of the range private jet. The jet has room for up to 20 passengers and can travel to 590mph.

4. Lost on The Grand Banks Painting – $30,000,000


Painted by American painter Winslow Homer, Gates loved the painting so much, he bought it for $30,000,000 in 1998. At the time this was a record breaking price ever paid for an American painting.

3. Porsche 959 Coupe – $500,000


One of the rarest cars to own, Bill Gates wanted this car for a very long time. However, as the car never had any crash rating tests, Gates was unable to bring it to the US. Eventually, the law was passed and cars like the 959 were road legal in the US. Gates has 1 of only 337 made, making it extremely rare.

Bill Gates owns the largest Island in Belize. The beautiful island set Gates back around $25,000,000, but he becomes one of only a rare few to own an island of this size.

1. Florida home – $10,000,000


This Mediterranean styled Florida home cost Bill Gates $10,000,000. Reports suggest he also purchased the villa next door to this as well for $13,500,000. The villa has a 20 horse barn, which along with it’s location, was one of the main attractions for Gates.
